APPLE LEATHER
Netherlands 2021

This project transforms local food waste into a functional curtain by utilizing apples, the most popular and accessible fruit in the Netherlands.

By sourcing discarded, spoiled apples and leftover apple pulp that would otherwise go to waste, this project reuses valuable materials. Using edible fruit leather recipes as a baseline, experiments with cornstarch (maizena), binders, and gelatin led to a perfected recipe and exact baking time.

The final material is 100% non-toxic and eco-friendly, proving that massive food waste streams can be successfully repurposed into functional future building materials.
